About Us

ECRAM, known as ECCELENZIA CONSORZIO RESEARCH AND MANAGEMENT, is a consortium of experts from different academic and professional disciplines that work to foster sustainable natural resources utilization in environmentally responsible and socioeconomically equitable manner through active research and provision of support to established management systems.

Key areas of focus include biodiversity enterprise development and conservation; climate change impact mitigation and adaptation; environmental management planning; business and socioeconomic development and dynamics; appraisal and impact assessment of private and public sector investments; access to social services including health and education; and enhancing community participation and equitable utilization of aquatic resources.

We seek to provide and or clarify scientific understanding, technologies and services which can be used as public goods to preserve and favourably impact on both the environment and its natural resource base, while improving human well-being in utilization of natural resources. ECRAM is focused on improving biological production across a continuum of ecosystems and land types where many poor people live and work, including those of high productive potential as well as those of poor, marginal, degraded or fragile systems. ECRAM deals primarily with the interactions of productivity and natural resources; and how this plays out in the socioeconomic development realm.

About Us

Vision

Contributing usable technological and information solutions to national, regional and international challenges in natural resources utilization and management in a proactive manner based on credible and high research tools reinforced by a well established global network of researchers and stakeholders.

Mission

The mission of ECRAM is to enhance the sustainable use and conservation of natural resources to benefit the economy and environment in Africa through an interdisciplinary research and community participatory research and management.

Working principles:

1. Partnerships are built on mutual trust, respect and ownership. The partners combine science with good husbandry of, and responsibility for, the resource base, combined with appropriate incentives.

2. Participatory action and a research/learning approach in an iterative fashion.

3. There must be consensus on the problems to be addressed, and the desired research and development aims.

4. Effective project management, including the facilitation and coordination of interactive partner processes.

5. Clear institutional roles and commitments at each level.

6. Cross-disciplinary, adaptive learning processes for researchers and development workers to provide a continuum of research and development.

7. Continuing, easy access to cutting edge science and local knowledge to ensure their assimilation into sustainable systems.

8. Information synthesis and communication strategies, often built on GIS technologies must be in place.

9. Local social and political organizational structures must exist to facilitate NRM implementation.

10. We aim at generating realistic short and medium term gains to make them economically realistic and attractive s well as increasing production efficiency.

11. The strategies for scaling up and extending NRM processes must be practical and clear in their purpose.
